The Inner Wheel Club of Madras Metro was a gift to all our members in its infancy. As the infant grew, so did the number of members. Today we are 34 members strong and growing. We successfully and grandly celebrated our Silver Jubilee in January 2017.
The icing on the cake is that Metro gifted three District Chairmen to the Inner Wheel District. – Kala Ravichandran, Shama Prasanna and Arasi Ponmozhi. Shama is currently the District Constitution and Credentials Committee Chairman.
As the club has grown, so have the projects. 32 years of Metro has seen a diverse and strong portfolio of projects in its kitty… Indeed a terrific growth trajectory that speaks volumes about the charter members, a gradual strengthening of Metro’s membership and finally a great future to look forward to in the future. Metro’s projects have all been carefully thought out and meticulously planned. The five pronged strategy been divided between children’s issues, women’s problems, medical care, differently abled children and care for the environment.

9.RMD Pain and Palliative Care ( full kitchen equipment)

11.Tree Planting at many schools and hospitals
12.Science and Social Science Exhibitions at Corporation School in Abhiramapuram and Valluvar Kottam
13.Donation of life saving equipment to Women’s and Children Hospital Egmore
14.Eye Camp at various centers with free cataract operations and free spectacles.
15.Pediatric Ward at Adyar Cancer Hospital.
16.PCVC Burn victims
17.Incubators at Kalaiselvi Karunalaya and RSRM hospital Royapuram.
18.Construction of girls toilet and donating science equipment at Jai Gopal Girls Higher Secondary School Saidapet
19.Donation of 50 computers to various corporation schools.
20.Chairs, Doors and teaching aids to Hindu Union Middle School.
21.Planting trees at the Regional Ophthalmic Hospital, Egmore
22.Development of a garden and providing an indoor play room with games at the Senior Citizens Home at VHS
23.Silver Jubilee project of creating safe drinking water systems at the pediatric ward of Abhimanyu block of VHS
24.Painting and beautification of pediatric wards at VHS; providing health passports for new borns and gift bags for breast feeding mothers there.
25.Creating ‘Happy Schools’ and playgrounds in Corporation Schools
Metro has many more signature projects too. One of the best being the “Cholayil Metro Car Rally’; a signature car rally/treasure hunt project sponsored annually by the Cholayil Group. The other project worth a mention is “Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu” a game show conducted by Metro, as part of their ISO project.
The Inner Wheel platform has provided a great opportunity for Metro members to help and serve the lesser privileged. We hope to go towards our Golden anniversary with many more years of service. Our friendship and bonding adds life to our life.
